Field Books are used for outdoor applications such as Surveying, Engineering where notes and information needs to be recorded in adverse conditions, where normal paper would not suffice. Field book pages are waxed or specially coated to help prevent moisture from ruining your work and used in conjuction with a water proof pen some books are able to be submersed in water. Many Surveyors and Engineers archive their field books like trophies and have a vast collection with a wealth of knowledge recorded after many years of land surveying or engineering.
Magnetic Locators are used to locate items buried underground. Surveyors will use them primarily to find survey markers and nails, manhole lid covers since they are usually made of cast iron, rebar that's used to mark property corners, marker magnets, and anything that a magnet will stick to. Magnetic Locators can save time by avoiding unnecessary digging while helping you find what you're looking for and and accurately. Most models of magnetic location equipment come with a hard or soft case included. We have seen that both types of cases offer benefit. The hard case offers more protection of course, but the soft case is more preferred due to where the locator can be stored, such as behind a truck seat, or in a tight compartment in a survey vehicle.
